Albert Einstein Coming to Amherst
Touring Performer Brings
Illustrious Physicist to Life in One-Man Show
Friday. March 31
Unitarian
Meetinghouse, Amherst
Actor Len Barron has a theory of
relevancy— not relativity—to explain why he has brought Albert Einstein to life
in a powerful one-man show, Walking Lightly, A Portrait of
Einstein, since 1989. He believes the esteemed physicist and
international figure has a message contemporary audiences ought to hear. The
Boulder, Colorado- based performer brings his nationally recognized performance
to Amherst with a show at the Unitarian Universalist Society of Amherst, 121
North Pleasant Street, Friday, March 31st at 7:30 PM.
“Albert
Einstein reshaped our understanding of space, time and gravity, dazzling us with
his brilliance,” says Adi Bemak, an organizer of Barron’s tour. “The image of
the genius, however, distanced us from Einstein the person: the dutiful son, the
sailor who loved to be out in rough weather, the gracious, good-humored man who
enjoyed the company of children and a good cigar,” she said.
While
Barron bears a striking resemblance to Einstein, his performance is not an
attempt to imitate Einstein on stage, according to Bemak. Rather, “Based on
extensive research in Einstein’s background, Len spins a moving story bringing
Einstein to life.” According to Barron, “Einstein’s life was founded on truth,
kindness, and beauty and all he did followed from his devotion to those
principles.” Barron says he wanted to keep that message alive and has done so,
performing for audiences around the U.S.
Walking Lightly, A Portrait
of Einstein presents Einstein’s humanity, his commitment to friendship,
peace, education, and his grand sense of wonder and playfulness. Barron’s
performance of Einstein leaves his audience feeling more alive and generous
toward each other. Len Barron has been called an “advocate of hope in these
troubled times.”
Tickets are available at the door for $12, seniors, $9
