Dear to-remain-anonymous-even-to-yourself,
I turned off the feature that fills in the first name of each email recipient in their email because some people were afraid of it and now have nightmares. And I don't really mean to send emails as frequently as 2 in one week because I don't want to be redundant but there are some fine updates to arts night out which is tomorrow and a few new things so here ya go.

The Center will be closed from January 1 through 12. During this period and extending through the third week in January, the ballroom will receive an extreme makeovera fresh coat of paint to go along with its recently refinished floor. Works by artist and house painter Peggy Grose, who is painting the ballroom, will be on display in the Centers east gallery during January. The gallery will be open when the painter is "in residence" (weekdays).

As an extra added attraction, Peggy Grose will host an event at the Center for the Arts on Northampton's Arts Night Out, January 13, "Wild & Crazy Painting/Sedate Dancing" from 7 to 11 p.m. The painting is Peggy's; the dancing is for everybody!

Friday, January 13, 5pm till whoknows o'clock
Dont forget the reception for Howard Meisters exhibit: Country Matters is on Friday evening from 5pm on and is in conjunction with the Northampton Arts Night Out. Northampton Cooperative Bank is the major sponsor of Arts Night Out, and there are 16 other sponsors. Over 20 galleries participate. Its an intriguing exhibit and includes frank depictions of nudity.

Smack Mellon presents Site 92, a show featuring site-specific works created by artists responding to Smack Mellons new home at 92 Plymouth Street with installations by 1 or 2 people we know
Carey Kalimba Ascenzo Exhibition DatesJanuary 21- March 5, 2006
Daytime ReceptionSaturday, January 21, 3- 6pm

Situated between the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges on the park, Smack Mellons new home is an especially exciting space with tremendous architectural elements. The12,000 square foot space boasts a ceiling that soars to 35 feet. There are 25 windows on two levels, providing beautiful light and a spectacular view of Manhattan and the East River. Its history as the boiler building is evident in its main architectural feature: a giant coal trough. Columns run the length of the main gallery space, holding up a huge concrete structure that once provided steam heat for the Gair Companys buildings in the neighborhood. This unparalleled architectural element provides plenty of interesting nooks and crannies for artists to create unique installations.

Karen Dolmanisths installation spirals out from 2 metal columns to create a reverse turbulent of castaways. Found and gathered throw aways from the social world, from domestic, industrial and natural sites, spin up off the ground in her linear spiral created out of carved sapling.

Carey Ascenzo, Florence-raised artist, also a genius (and daughter of Maureen "peaceri bbon.org" Scanlon), tellicherry-peppered the brick wall with tiny knotted red wire balls. These small dots are found clustered in various groups around the wall like an infestation of insects or crystal formations.

Like, any minute.

So, theotherday I was at my mailbox, key in hand, about to open the mailbox and Mike Paulsen was at *his* mailbox nearby and I said, "Think there's a random bag of money in my mailbox?" to which he replied something about bags of money in his mailbox too and then I opened the little door and there was...a random envelope of money from Susan And Rachel! With a sweet little note saying, "Please accept this money to defray the cost of putting out your great newsletter! Cheers!" and then of course I got all dramatic & emotional and mike ran off. How incredibly sweet and thoughtful and unexpected! Thanks again Susan and Rachel. asante, Ita daktari Duka la dawa <---swahili for thank you fetch a doctor chemist.
